A native of a Chinese-born female composer, Yang Guang’s (b.1993) compositions have been performed in China, Korea, Germany, France, and United States. Guang also has accepted by music summer festivals around the world such as Music Composition Class at Fubis University Berlin(2012, 2013) with award-winning composer Samuel Adler, Etchings Festival - VCCA-France (2013) with Beat Furrer, Atlantic Music Festival, Maine U.S. (2013) with Ken Ueno, David Ludwig, The Walden School summer Retreat with Yale faculty Martin Bresnick(2015), and Shanghai Contemporary Music Week with Julliard faculty John Corigliano (2011).

 

Guang started to compose at age of 10. By age of 16, she becomes the first composer, in school history, who holds an hour-long of original compositions concert at Shanghai Conservatory of Music High School, which attracts more than 200 audiences to attend. Her recent project includes a commission by Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, the third horn player for 2017 South Bay Horn Day and appointed as music director and composer for a multimedia concert with ‘Zenkora’ universe. She is also fascinated by traditional Chinese instrument, and her pieces won national competitions such as “Minyin’’ National Composition competition and B.Tiao Young Composer Competition. Recently, she was selected as one of the three finalists of Society of Composers/American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers National Commission Contest from a historical record of 271 applications pool. Guang is also a recipient of the highly competitive academic award includes New England Conservatory of Music Beneficent scholarship 2016 spring, which only is given to few students a year, Atlantic Music Festival Scholarship (2014), and “The Outstanding Composer” from Shanghai Education Association (2010). In addition, she likes to express music in a broader way to the society. Her friends and she organized a charity concert for 2008 Sichuan Earthquake and raised RMB 5,400 of donation to the Red Cross to help people in the site of the disaster.

 

     Guang Yang was born in Tianjin, China. She is currently pursuing her Master Degree in one of the top music school in west coast - University of Southern California-Thornton School of Music in Los Angeles with Donald Crockett and Frank Ticheli, with full scholarship and stipend as a teaching assistant for two years. With academic honor and two times Dean’s lists awards, she earned her Bachelor of Music degree in Music Composition and Music-in-Education concentration at New Conservatory of Music in Boston, with Stratis Minakakis and John Mallia, and with additional instruction with Lyle Davidson.
